Dalrymple learns from the Oxford University Press that “women account for less than 16% of all Shakespearean characters”, to which he naturally wonders: shall we “impose quotas on the sex of characters” then?

    When Shakespeare was alive, all the actors were male. I think this is something that Dalrymple hadn’t considered. Could cross dressing or transgender actors offset the lack of female characters?
